tinkertown

if you’re bad – a bad girl – during the night, a doll crawls inside you. It stays in you.

‘Critics Choice’ TIMEOUT

“The audience ends up laughing as someone dies, uncomfortably bizarre, but that’s the genre. Tinkertown is under the expert direction of MKA Artistic Director Tobias Manderson-Galvin… Outstanding performances from Rebecca Mezei and Steven Kennedy.”
MELBOURNE OBSERVER

‘Steven Kennedy as Chester had a commanding stage presence. Rebecca Mezei as the sullen teenage daughter was an absolute treat to watch. ”
AUSTRALIAN STAGE ONLINE

On his first day out of prison in 10 years, Chester decides to visit his teenage daughter. But when he accidentally shoots dead his ex-wife’s sister, the visit turns into a kidnapping and he and his daughter race across the outback, to get to know each other, and escape the cops.

Nathaniel Moncrieff wowed audiences in 2011 with SLEEPYHEAD and now, as 2012 begins, MKA brings you TINKERTOWN, another Australian Gothic from the talented Western Australian writer. Shooting, kidnapping, running away, shooting, cheap dirty speed balls, jukeboxes, dancing, coked-out sex, alcoholism, stabbing, shooting, lusting, fields by a high way, running away, a car park, robbery, service stations, passing out, hotel room, a salt lake and a scarecrow. You can choose your friends but you can’t choose your relatives, but sometimes you can kill them and sometimes you can kidnap them and then the cops can conduct an hour long chase scene after you through the harsh West Australian desert.

TINKERTOWN is another distinctly Australian, gothic-black comedy penned by Nathaniel Moncrieff and directed by MKA Artistic Director Tobias Manderson-Galvin.

Wonderful”

“Tobias Manderson-Galvin’s direction is snappy, rippling with incongruity and deflationary humour”
THE AGE (On Manderson-Galvin’s 22 Short Plays)

“the standards of the genre are all there: the imperilled young girl, the monstrous male, the fusing of psychology and environment, the return of the repressed, the descent into hysteria.”
